Rock Star Benefit: The Traveling Wilburys have recorded an old country song, “Nobody’s Child,” to anchor a planned album also featuring songs donated by Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton and others to benefit Romanian Angel Appeal, a new organization supporting destitute Romanian orphans. The drive was started by Wilbury George Harrison’s wife, Olivia, who traveled to Bucharest after soliciting donations from other Beatle wives Yoko Ono, Linda McCartney and Barbara Starkey. “They’re living in a loveless void,” Harrison said of the children, many of whom were abandoned after contracting AIDS from blood transfusions. The single is planned to be released in mid-May, with the album to follow.
