Confusion Over Labels: Most consumers still consider “biodegradable” the best indicator of a product that is “good for the environment,” despite a recent avalanche of criticism from environmentalists, some manufacturers and politicians, according to a study released by Cheskin-Masten, a Palo Alto-based packaging research firm. That will change, however, said Darrel K. Rheo of Cheskin-Masten, and “the wary marketer will want to stay abreast of the rapidly evolving environmental vocabulary.”
