Orphan Remembers Orphanages Fondly

Re “Back to the Orphanage?” (Feb. 21): I spent the first five years of my life in Catholic orphanages during a period when people were far less informed in child psychology than we are today. I have several very tender memories of that time of my life and some that are not so nice. After being adopted by an unhappy family, I used to long for the security and warmth I remembered receiving in the orphanage.
I wholeheartedly support the idea of bringing back orphanages. I believe that with the number of enlightened and educated adults available to supervise and staff these institutions, they can be more beneficial to a child than the average foster home.
