SOUTHERN SECTION GIRLS BASKETBALL : Santa Ynez, Rosamond, Rio Hondo Prep Win

Santa Ynez’s Jennifer DeMatteo had five three-point goals, including one to open the overtime, as the Pirates defeated Morro Bay, 44-41, to win the Girls Southern Section 2-AA Division game Friday night at Cabrillo High.
Santa Ynez (22-3), which had trailed by 12 points at halftime, tied the game with just six seconds remaining in regulation on a basket by Amy Gillingham.
Morro Bay (20-5) was led by Jenny Myers’ 18 points.
Rosamond 49, San Luis Obispo Mission Prep 44--Lulu Vasquez had 25 points and six rebounds to lead the Roadrunner victory over the defending champion in the Southern Section 1-A Division final at San Luis Obispo High.
Rosamond (18-7) confused Mission Prep (17-5) with a full-court pressure defense, forcing 16 turnovers in the first half.
Mission Prep missed four key free throws in the fourth quarter, and Rosamond overcame a 41-39 deficit late in the fourth quarter.
Christine Mott had 15 points and eight rebounds for Mission Prep.
Rio Hondo Prep 55, Lone Pine 50--The top-seeded Kares got 15 points from sophomore Pauline Hampton and 20 rebounds from her sister Alana to key the victory over Lone Pine in the Southern Section Small Schools Division final at Biola University.
Center Lindy Lunney added 11 points and 11 rebounds for Rio Hondo Prep (21-4). Darilynn Richards led Lone Pine (22-6) with 14 points.
