Assessing Television Coverage of the Bay Area Earthquake
I’m afraid Letofsky was the one out of line. Obviously, he wasn’t watching the coverage on KABC.
Without question, KGO-TV in San Francisco had the outstanding coverage all night long, and KABC was smart enough to pick it up and let it run, for the most part.
I don’t know what Letofsky was looking for, but the coverage of both KNBC and KCBS was ridiculous in comparison. We tried them throughout the night, plus CNN, but kept coming back to KABC in order to see something besides reruns of the old tapes.
If KGO-TV doesn’t win the Peabody Award, there ain’t no justice.
