A second sailor stationed aboard the USS Midway has been convicted of espionage, a Navy spokesman said. Petty Officer 3rd Class Russell P. Brown, 21, of Norfolk, Neb., was sentenced to 10 years’ confinement at hard labor “for conspiring with Airman Recruit James R. Wilmoth to commit espionage and for making false statements” to naval authorities, the spokesman said. Wilmoth was sentenced last month to 35 years for trying to pass classified material to a Soviet agent. The sailors were arrested by Navy authorities on July 25 in Yokosuka, Japan, where the Midway is based.
