Maltbie Shoots 63, Trails by Two Strokes

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Roger Maltbie, relieved to learn his relatives and his home in Los Gatos survived Tuesday’s earthquake, shot a personal-best nine-under-par 63 Thursday for the lowest score of the second round of the 72-hole Disney tournament being played on three different courses.
Maltbie’s 10-under-par 134 total was good for a share of the lead until late in the day, when Tim Simpson shot a 67 for a two-stroke lead. Dave Rummells, who had a second-round 68, and Ted Schulz, with a 69, were tied with Maltbie.
Bob Tway, who tied a tournament record with a 61 in the first round, followed with a 77.
