City Section Roundup : San Fernando Marks Anniversary With Victory
Tailback William Taylor rushed for 85 yards in nine carries and scored on runs of 21, 20 and nine yards Friday to lift San Fernando High over Canoga Park, 35-3, in a Northwest Valley conference football game at San Fernando.
A celebration to mark San Fernando’s 75th year of high school football preceded the game that saw the Tigers run their series advantage to 27-14-7 over Canoga Park. The game also marked their first win of the season.
San Fernando (1-3, 1-0 in conference play) pounded out 247 yards and four touchdowns on the ground and held Canoga Park to 67 yards in total offense.
Canoga Park (0-3, 0-1) opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 39-yard field goal by Hugo Escamilla. On the ensuing drive, the Tigers drove 80 yards in 11 plays, capped by a two-yard plunge by Vincent Hall.
Quarterback Michael Wynn completed two of six passes for 38 yards and a touchdown. He was sacked four times for minus-27 yards.
San Fernando sophomore La-Karlos Townsend had a game-high 90 yards in 12 carries.
