SportScope : Mira Costa Heads Field in San Marcos Volleyball Tourney

Mira Costa High heads an elite field of girls’ volleyball teams Saturday in the 14th annual San Marcos Invitational Tournament at UC Santa Barbara. The 25-team competition features five nationally ranked teams: Mira Costa, ranked No. 1 in the country by Volleyball Monthly, No. 2-ranked Clark High of Las Vegas, No. 4 Corona del Mar, No. 7 Santa Barbara and No. 13 Thousand Oaks. Mira Costa (10-0) is led by All-CIF returnees Piper Hahn, Kristal Attwood and Heidi Eick. Play in the tournament begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by a 16-team playoff at about 3:30 p.m. and the championship finals at 7 p.m.
