The striking Musicians Union said it will picket the Casa de Shenandoah ranch of singer Wayne Newton because he crossed union lines at the Las Vegas Hilton. In a statement, Mark Massabli, president of the union local, accused Newton of breaking his word that he would not cross the picket line if there was a breakdown in good-faith bargaining efforts on the part of the hotel. Newton, originally scheduled to open at the resort Sept. 12, delayed his appearance for two weeks while he attempted to mediate the dispute. But he crossed picket lines to begin an engagement that continues through Oct. 8. The musicians’ strike has kept other well-known entertainers from performing, including Diana Ross, Willie Nelson, George Carlin, Rodney Dangerfield, Jerry Lewis and Sammy Davis Jr.
