Revolt Against Galanter
It appears that Times reporter Dean Murphy does not understand the facts generating the serious concerns many Venice residents have regarding Councilwoman Galanter’s performance on development issues in our community.
Venice residents, who came to City Hall in large numbers to support the successful adoption of Galanter’s ICO, were subsequently shocked and saddened to see the councilwoman actively engaged in supporting projects exceeding the ICO guidelines she adopted. We expect the councilwoman to support her own ordinance.
What are we getting instead? Councilwoman Galanter is granting “hardship exemptions” to her ordinance, thereby accommodating new developments which exceed the guidelines she put in place. She has also rezoned residential land to commercial.
Galanter has written to us “that far more useful land use policy is set through permit processes than through abstract planning.” No one is asking for “abstract planning.” Her habit of dealing with each project on an individual basis ignores the cumulative effects of all these projects on our community.
