The longest unbeaten streak in high school football ended at 55 games when Central Bucks West of Doylestown, Pa., was beaten, 13-10, by Cardinal O’Hara of Springfield, Delaware County, Pa.
West led, 10-6, when, with 2:37 to play, O’Hara quarterback Kevin Byrne completed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Fred Steigerwalt on a third-and-10.
The game had been scheduled for Sunday at Springfield, but was set back to Monday and moved to Doylestown because of rain.
West, which had last lost Nov. 24, 1983, had its winning streak snapped last year in a 14-14 tie against Central Bucks East. Monday’s loss prevented West from tying the Pennsylvania prep unbeaten streak of 56 games, set by Braddock High School from 1953 to 1960.
