McKinney Will Not Be Charged in Alleged Abduction of Girl
LAS VEGAS — Olympic boxing gold medalist Kennedy McKinney will not be charged in an incident last week involving a teen-age girl, authorities said Monday.
The Clark County District Attorney’s office said it decided not to prosecute McKinney because there is no evidence he was involved in a crime.
McKinney was arrested last week and jailed for three days for investigation of second-degree kidnaping and conspiracy to commit a crime in the alleged attempted abduction of a 15-year-old girl.
The incident occurred while McKinney was driving a car with two friends and spotted the girl, who they believed was an acquaintance of a man who owed money to one of McKinney’s friends.
McKinney, who won the 119-pound gold medal in Seoul, was dropped by his manager and promoter two weeks ago after failing to show up for training sessions.
McKinney, 4-0-1 as a pro, admitted earlier to having a drug problem, but said he has been clean since a stint in a drug rehabilitation center this summer.
