United to Fly Controversial Jet: United Airlines has apparently ended a 2-month-long contract dispute with its pilots about a new Boeing 747-400. The jumbo jet was scheduled to fly from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia, Monday night. The dispute about the jet--which had become a symbol of the bitter relations between pilots and management--ended last week when the pilots and United’s management joined forces to successfully bid $6.75 billion for United’s parent, UAL Corp.
