Santa Monica : Remote Aircraft Ordinance
The City Council has directed the city attorney to draft an ordinance that would ban the use of remote-control operated model helicopters and airplanes in city parks.
The Recreation and Parks Commission at its Aug. 17 meeting said the operation of remote-control model aircraft is not compatible with heavy park use.
Barbara Franklin-Moran, director of cultural and recreation services, said the city has received numerous complaints about the noisy and potentially dangerous model aircraft. She said the city will try to find another place for hobbyists to fly their aircraft.
