Prep Roundup : Corona del Mar Girls Beat Edison in Tennis
Sophomore Keri Phebus, making her first appearance of the season, didn’t lose a game while sweeping three sets as Corona del Mar High School defeated Edison, 13-5, in a nonleague tennis match Wednesday at Edison.
Corona del Mar Coach Gary Salazar had held Phebus, the Sea View League champion last year, out of the team’s first two matches to give other players some experience.
Junior Courtney Strauss also swept her sets for Corona del Mar (3-0).
In other girls’ tennis matches:
Savanna 17, Garden Grove 1--Junior Cindy Kuragami won her three sets without losing a game for Savanna. Kuragami has won all nine of her sets in Savanna’s three nonleague matches this season and has yet to lose a game.
Katella 11, Woodbridge 7--Lynn Vonusa swept her singles sets and the doubles team of Margaret Harker and Alisha Michaels also swept for Katella (3-1) at Woodbridge.
In nonleague volleyball:
University 3, Trabuco Hills 1--Devon Austin had nine kills and seven blocks to lead host University to a 15-4, 15-7, 12-15, 15-9, victory. University is 1-1.
