Deputies Arrest Man, Seize 34 Fighting Cocks
Authorities on Wednesday arrested a Val Verde man and seized 34 illegal fighting cocks from his residence after he sold one of the roosters to an undercover deputy, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Luis Munoz Velasquez, 38, was being held in lieu of $1,000 bail at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station on suspicion of possession of gaming cocks with intent to fight and possession of a sawed-off shotgun, which deputies found while searching his house in the 2500 block of Chiquito Canyon Road, Deputy Pat Hunter said.
Velasquez was selling the cocks for between $70 and $100 apiece, Hunter said. The seized roosters were turned over to the county Department of Animal Care and Control, he said.
The arrest and seizures capped a one-week investigation, Hunter said.
