P.M. BRIEFING : Swiss Extradite Extortion Suspect
BERN, Switzerland — Switzerland has extradited to the United States the alleged ringleader of a scheme to extort $10 million from the E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co., Swiss authorities said today.
Bruno Skerianz, who has dual citizenship in Argentina and Italy, was turned over to U.S. marshals in Geneva and flown to the United States, the Swiss Justice Department said.
Skerianz and four other suspects face charges that they tried to sell the chemicals company stolen documents related to Du Pont’s production of Lycra, a trade name for spandex. Spandex is a stretch fiber used in such products as underwear, bathing suits, stockings and exercise outfits.
