Balboa Park’s Cabrillo Bridge will be closed to traffic until Oct. 15 while work is done on two bridge projects. As a result, access to the park will be limited to Park Boulevard and Presidents Way on the park’s eastern side.
The park’s entrance at Balboa Drive and El Prado is undergoing a $150,000 face lift that will include repaving and landscaping improvements, according to Gary Stromberg, district manager of Balboa Park for the city’s Park and Recreation Department.
Interlocking brick-and-dirt beds will be added to the bridge’s western side, Stromberg said. San Diego Trust & Savings Bank is paying for the project as part of its 100th anniversary celebration.
At the same time, storm drain reconstruction on the bridge’s eastern side will be funded by the city.
Construction work at both ends is expected to be completed before Oct. 15, Stromberg said.
