Football Show Will Go On at Oak Park
Despite uncertainty over the number of available players and the absence of a head coach, Oak Park High will field a football team for tonight’s game against Boron, Oak Park officials confirmed Thursday.
Oak Park will play host to Boron in the opener at 7:30.
“Our kids told us they want to play so we’re playing Friday night,” Athletic Director Fred Yamano said. “We will continue with normal procedure. We will hold a pregame meal tonight (Thursday) and then have a walk-through practice.”
Ron Veres, who claimed he had only eight healthy players, resigned Wednesday after two years as Oak Park’s coach. Yamano has not selected a successor. In the interim, Yamano will run the team along with former assistant Roger Newell, school Principal Jeff Chancer and the remaining varsity and junior varsity coaches.
