Long Hostage Incident Ends in Oceanside

A 33-year-old man held his estranged wife and another man at gunpoint for nearly 30 hours inside an Oceanside home before surrendering Wednesday afternoon, police reported.
The incident began at 7 a.m. Tuesday when Dale Hutchinson allegedly took over his former home on the 200 block of Saguaro Place, said Gary Church, a spokesman for the Oceanside Police Department. Hutchinson summoned the police 12 hours later, and negotiations led to the release of hostage Terry Scaife, also of Oceanside, at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Church said.
The second hostage, Kim Hutchinson, was freed when her husband surrendered to police at 1 p.m., Church said.
No shots were fired during the stand-off, but 16 residents from four nearby homes were evacuated as Oceanside police and a Sheriff’s Department SWAT detail surrounded the house, Church said.
Dale Hutchinson was involved in another hostage situation at the same address last January, said Oceanside police spokesman William Krunglevich. Krunglevich declined to elaborate.
Hutchinson was booked into County Jail in Vista on suspicion of violating his parole and will probably be charged with false imprisonment and assault with a deadly weapon, Krunglevich said.
