Weekend Checklist for Diggers and Planters

For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen:

Look ahead to fall color. Plant shrubs that provide colorful berries such as pyracantha, holly and others.

Don’t lighten up on snail or slug controls; keep baiting regularly.

Support chrysanthemums by staking. The fuller they get, the more apt they are to droop and break.

Keep your vegetable harvest going by planting spinach, winter squash, carrots, loose-leaf vegetables, cauliflower and more.
