Brea : City Worker Hit, Killed by Careening Auto

A city maintenance worker was killed Friday after he and a highway inspector were struck by a car that had just collided with another vehicle.

The man, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was hit by a Ford Escort at about 3 p.m. Friday as he was working with an highway inspector on the intersection on Lambert Road and State College Boulevard, police said.

The Ford, which was driven by a 19-year-old Montclair man, was westbound on Lambert when it collided with a Honda Accord driven by a 35-year-old Brea woman, who was southbound on State College Boulevard.

The victim was taken to Brea Community Hospital, where he died of severe injuries. The highway inspector, whose name was also not released, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was listed in serious condition.

A Brea police spokeswoman said neither driver was cited or held pending further investigation.
