Report Warns of Labor Imbalance

CHICAGO — A serious shortage of skilled workers and a surplus of unskilled workers imperils economic growth, according to a report presented to Labor Secretary Elizabeth Dole Friday.
With a slap on the hands of American educators, businessmen and parents, the Commission on Workforce Quality and Labor Market Efficiency presented Dole with the 37-page report that outlined steps needed to upgrade what it said was the nation’s woefully inadequate work force.
“Increased demand for highly skilled workers, combined with an aging work force, has already created shortages of skilled workers (which are) likely to grow,” said the report.
