Santa Monica : Sign for First Muscle Beach
A plaque designating the original location of Muscle Beach just south of the Santa Monica Pier will be installed at a dedication ceremony on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
The Muscle Beach Alumni Assn. had requested that a 2-by-3-foot sign be installed, and it was approved by the city Cultural and Recreational Services Department.
Thirty years ago the beachfront platform on which weightlifters worked out was removed. Many weightlifters now work out at a facility on Venice Beach, also referred to as Muscle Beach.
Many of the Muscle Beach pioneers are expected to attend the ceremony, including Jack LaLanne, Steve Reeves and Burt Goodrich, the first Mr. America.
