Sierra Madre : Sign Ordinance Revision

The Main Street Committee is revising Sierra Madre’s sign ordinance as part of an effort to provide design guidelines for the downtown commercial district.

Proposed by the five-member committee, the revisions are part of a detailed, 1/2-inch-thick report submitted to the City Council a month ago. The revised guidelines would seek to standardize signs in the downtown area.

The report contains suggestions for downtown landscaping, street lighting, street signs, building scale and even paint colors. It was reviewed by the council two weeks ago and will receive a second review in two months at a joint meeting of the council and the Chamber of Commerce, said architect Don Murphy, who heads the committee.

Murphy said he hopes the council will incorporate the suggestions into a review process that would be required before downtown buildings are remodeled or built.
