Dana Point : Sailor Hopes Trimaran Can Set Sailing Record
A 40-foot trimaran, the Yanmar Endeavor, was launched Monday afternoon in Dana Point Harbor and will be prepared for what is hoped will be a record-setting journey from San Francisco to Honolulu beginning Sept. 29, said its owner, Steve Shidler of Newport Beach.
Shidler hopes the Yanmar Endeavor will be the first boat to make the run without refueling either of its two outboard engines, which will be its sole source of power.
The engines were made by Yanmar Diesel Engine (USA) Inc. of Anaheim. The trimaran was designed by Gino Morrelli of Newport Beach and built by RD Boatworks of Capistrano Beach.
“We will make numerous runs up and down the coast from Dana Point” to as far as Seattle in order to fine-tune the craft, Shidler said.
