Soccer fans wrecked the restaurant car and passenger compartments of a train and forced it to stop several times as it crossed East Germany to West Berlin, the East German news agency ADN reported.
West Berlin police confirmed the report of damage aboard the train Saturday night and said they took the names of 38 fans of East Berlin’s second division soccer club, Hertha.
They said the fans boarded the train in the West German city of Hanover, which Hertha defeated, 2-0, in a league match.
The East German news agency reported that fans destroyed “a restaurant car and several compartments of passenger carriages and molested railway personnel and other passengers.”
