Man Trying to Stop Store Thief Is Shot
A good Samaritan tried to stop two men from stealing two 12-packs of beer from a convenience store early Sunday but was shot during his attempt, police said.
Paul Williams, 27, of Santa Ana was reported in critical condition at United Western Medical Center-Santa Ana after he tried to detain one of the men outside the AM-PM Minimart at 34114 S. Main St., police said.
Williams was wounded in the chest when the suspect turned and fired at him, police said.
“He tried to be a good Samaritan, but look what he got for his effort,” Santa Ana Police Sgt. Jim Seleno said.
A car with two men inside picked up the two suspects, who had taken the beer shortly after 2 a.m.
