Paul Roberts and Stanford

I would like to comment on Roberts’ article, “Liberals Exact a Pound of Flesh at Stanford.”
If the Hoover Institution’s staff was as involved as Roberts says in devising the outlines of the “Reagan Revolution,” then changes in that staff were indeed sorely needed. Is it possible that the “best endowed think-tank in the world” would take pride (and credit) in the accomplishment of the Reagan Administration? I would hope not.
I’m curious about Roberts’ use of the terms “liberal,” “progressive,” “moderate,” “ideologue” and “left-wing.” In particular, in use of the terms “left-wing” and “ideologue” to describe Stanford’s ascendant liberal faculty seems a little contrived, especially when he describes supporters of the Reagan Revolution as “moderates.” Of course, there is no mention in Roberts’ piece of a right wing, and my guess is that no such concept exists in his political spectrum.
Based upon the content of Roberts’ article, I am inclined to feel optimistic for the future of the Hoover Institution and for Stanford University.
