Purchasing Railroad Rights of Way for Transit
- Share via
As a strong supporter of improved mass transit in Los Angeles, I commend you on your very good editorial, “L.A.’s Track to the Future,” (Aug. 9).
Purchasing the railroad rights-of-way currently up for sale would be a wise and farsighted move for L.A. County. the properties being offered are all logical places for commuter rail routes, and there is no question that they could all be re-sold for a substantial profit should the County Transportation Commission eventually decide against using them.
Congestion on the county’s freeways will only get worse in the next decade. If we do not begin soon to construct a decent, usable mass transit system, we may not, as you suggest, be given a second chance.
