Long Beach : 2 Competing Proposals for Movie Theaters on Agenda
- Share via
After years of planning, the Redevelopment Agency board will soon consider two competing plans to develop a movie theater complex in downtown Long Beach.
The agency received plans from Pacific Theaters and Janss Group/Cineplex Odeon, which were merged into a single proposal. There is also a competing proposal from Promenade Cinema Group/SoCal Cinema.
Since the last legitimate movie theater closed in downtown Long Beach more than a decade ago, city officials have been trying to figure out the best way to bring them back. Theaters are being sought as a way of increasing night life in Long Beach. Restaurant and bar owners say that the cinemas will help draw customers to their establishments as well.
