A Chinese army officer and his wife who defected across the border from North Korea last month are expected to resettle in the United States as soon as this week, the South Korean news agency Yonhap said. Foreign Ministry officials declined to comment on the report. The Seoul government is consulting with U.S. authorities about the wishes of Maj. Zuo Xiukai, 41, and his wife to seek asylum in the United States, Yonhap said. Zuo, a member of the Chinese detachment monitoring the 1953 Korean War armistice, does not want to meet with Chinese authorities, nor has China demanded to interview the couple, Yonhap said.
