Driver Killed in Crash of Speeding Car
A Studio City man driving a Corvette at more than 100 m.p.h. on the Hollywood Freeway was killed when he lost control of the car and crashed, the California Highway Patrol reported Thursday.
Frank Georgianni, 47, was killed in the 11:40 p.m. accident Wednesday, CHP Officer Dave Grajeda said. The victim had been heading south on the freeway at speeds ranging from 100 to 115 m.p.h. when the car went out of control on a curve just north of Chandler Avenue, Grajeda said.
The 1974 Corvette with an open T-top spun several times across traffic lanes, then struck a light pole and rolled down an embankment into a group of trees, Grajeda said. Georgianni, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car, which then came to rest on top of him, Grajeda said.
Georgianni died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved, Grajeda said.
