McDonnell Douglas Gets Contract: McDonnell Douglas announced it has received a $691-million Air Force contract to produce four more C-17 transport planes, bringing to six the number of C-17s on order. The Air Force plans to have its Military Airlift Command operating a fleet of 210 of the planes by the turn of the century. Assembly of the first C-17 at McDonnell’s Douglas Aircraft plant in Long Beach is scheduled to be completed by mid-1990.
