Walter Martin, a Baptist minister whose radio show “The Bible Answer Man,” was heard across the country, died Monday at his San Juan Capistrano home at age 60 of a heart attack.
Heard in Orange County on KKLA-FM and in more than 100 other markets nationwide, Martin was considered an authority on the Bible and said his mission was to confront “cults” and “unbiblical beliefs.”
Martin founded his Christian Research Institute in 1960. The Irvine-based group started “The Bible Answer Man” four years later in New Jersey and moved it to Southern California in 1974.
Martin also was the author of several books, the best-known of which, “The Kingdom of the Cults,” sold nearly 500,000 copies.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene, and six children.
