Harbor Patrol Puts Out Fire on Boat
A Harbor Patrol boat Saturday put out a blaze aboard a 50-foot trawler about two miles off the coast of Huntington Beach, authorities said.
The boat’s operator and passengers were picked up by a private vessel after the fire broke out at 2:47 p.m., said Lt. Jay Mendez of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. There were no injuries.
At the time of the blaze, the boat was near Oil Island Eva, about two miles from the intersection of Golden West Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway, Mendez said. The boat was later towed to Huntington Harbour, where fire investigators will try to determine what caused the fire, Mendez said. There was no damage estimate immediately available.
