NATION : Mayor Young to Pay Child Support

DETROIT — Mayor Coleman A. Young has agreed to pay $200 a week to support the 6-year-old son he refused to acknowledge until blood tests proved he was the father.
The settlement filed Wednesday provides Annivory Calvert, mother of Joel Loving, with support payments retroactive to Jan. 27, the day she filed a paternity suit, said her lawyer, Noel Keane. The payments will continue until Joel turns 18 in 2000, when Young, now 71, will be 82.
Calvert, 34, a former city administrator, left Detroit earlier this year to become public works director in Fontana, Calif.
