LOCAL : Valley Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash
A 48-year-old Van Nuys man was killed when he was thrown from a motorcycle on a freeway transition road in Mission Hills, the California Highway Patrol said today.
Bruce Watkins apparently lost control of his motorcycle at 7 p.m. Thursday while riding at a high rate of speed on the elevated transition road from the westbound Simi Valley Freeway onto the southbound San Diego Freeway, said Officer Dave Grajeda.
The motorcycle crashed into a retainer wall and Watkins was thrown to the pavement, breaking his neck. He was found dead at the scene by a passing motorist, police said. CHP officers found a helmet near the motorcycle but were unsure whether Watkins had been wearing it.
Grajeda said that the accident was still under investigation but that no other vehicles were believed to have been involved.
