INDIANA, Pa. — A coal strike that started in Virginia and triggered wildcat strikes across West Virginia reached Pennsylvania today.
Spokesman Hank Waneck of the Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal Co. at Indiana said about 1,600 miners left their jobs at midnight, apparently in sympathy with the Virginia strikers. Among companies affected were Keystone Coal, Helvetia Coal and the Florence Mining Co., all subsidiaries of Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal.
