A 35-year-old pregnant mother of three died Sunday after a car accident in Anaheim, and attempts at UCI Medical Center to save her 22-week-old fetus were unsuccessful, Anaheim police said.
Patricia Ann Williams, 35, of Anaheim was an occupant in an older-model Volkswagen van driven by her husband, Wayne Lee Williams, 38, east on Sycamore Street when it crossed Harbor Boulevard and was struck by a car, Sgt. David Severson said.
His wife was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange where she was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m.
Doctors, who were motivated by a “good heartbeat” from the woman’s unborn fetus, unsuccessfully attempted to save the fetus at the medical center’s neonatal clinic, Severson said.
Three children, two from the woman’s previous marriage, also were in the van at the time of the accident. The children were Tony Elliot, 9, who was uninjured, and Brandy Elliot, 4, and Isiah Williams, 1, who both suffered minor injuries.
Wayne Williams and the two younger children were treated and released at Anaheim Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the other car was Joan Borst Minchin, 63, of Anaheim. Minchin was taken to United Western Medical Center-Anaheim where she was treated and released for minor injuries.
Severson said no arrests were made at the scene. The investigation will continue today.
