‘Corporate Welfare’ Bills

Regarding “Revolving Door: Reagan Administration Officials Find the Path to Private Jobs Is Paved With Gold,” May 7:
It is most gratifying to read of the corporate welfare/pension programs established for Frank C. Carlucci, George P. Shultz, Ann McLaughlin and other former officials in the Reagan Administration. I feared for their welfare after leaving government service. In Carlucci’s case, nine major corporations saw their duty and jumped at the opportunity to “employ” his expertise while only four saw the light in Shultz’s case. Poor McLaughlin came in third with only three.
While it may not be clear what job skills these three bring to their new employers, I have every confidence that with some on-the-job training these quick learners will more than repay corporate America for their confidence in them. The question, of course, is at who’s expense the repayment will come?
