Chinese Students Protest in Beijing
Although the widespread and to date peaceful nature of the Beijing confrontation is unique, it is nonetheless an example of a common situation in world affairs: the ongoing struggle between the people and the government. While the general populace of nations usually wants only democracy and freedom, most governments want to maintain power at any and all costs.
My only question is: How have hundreds of millions let a handful of individuals dominate them for so long? One shouldn’t be amazed that the Beijing revolution is happening now, but only disappointed that it didn’t happen 20 years ago.
