Baseball Teams Open Playoff Competition
Three South Bay baseball teams will open competition today in the L.A. City 4-A playoffs, which were resurrected Thursday after a settlement in the Los Angeles Unified School District teachers strike.
At 3 p.m., Pacific League champion San Pedro High (16-8) plays host to University of West Los Angeles, Pacific runner-up Banning (16-8) is at home against Grant of Van Nuys (15-4), and Gardena, the Pacific League’s third-place team, travels to top-seeded Chatsworth (17-6).
Chatsworth routed Gardena, 29-4, in a playoff opener last year.
Subsequent rounds of the playoffs will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, when the finals will be played at Dodger Stadium.
