Argentine Economic Czar Sworn In, Vows Fight

BUENOS AIRES — Jesus Rodriguez, a 33-year-old congressman, was being sworn in today as President Raul Alfonsin’s new economy minister, charged with tackling the daunting task of reducing Argentina’s massive inflation rate. “We will work through the weekend to draw up a very firm, technically rigorous political economy proposal to endow it with credibility and equity,” Rodriguez, a 5 1/2-year veteran of Congress told a radio interviewer.
