Robert A. Schmitz, chairman, president and chief executive of Richard D. Irwin Inc., has decided to leave this summer to pursue other career opportunities. Irwin is Times Mirror Co.’s college business and economics textbook publisher based in Homewood, Ill. Patrick A. Clifford, president and chief executive of C. V. Mosby Co., a Times Mirror subsidiary based in St. Louis, will become chairman and chief executive of Irwin. Clifford will continue in his current position at C. V. Mosby, which publishes medical, nursing, dental and college textbooks and journals. Schmitz had agreed to stay with Irwin for a transitional period after Times Mirror, the Los Angeles-based media company, purchased the book publisher from Dow Jones in February, 1988.
