Cuccia Rejected; Search Resumes at El Dorado
The search for a varsity football coach at El Dorado High School will continue after the Placentia Unified School District’s personnel department rejected Fred Cuccia as the school’s coach.
Cuccia, varsity coach at California High School in San Ramon last fall, was selected by the school about three weeks ago from among 25 applicants to replace Carl Sweet, who resigned in April to become the school’s athletic director.
Cuccia had previously coached at Glendale Hoover and South Pasadena. He led Hoover to an 8-2 record in 1985, but the school forfeited eight victories for using an ineligible player. South Pasadena forfeited six victories in 1987 under Cuccia, also for using an ineligible player.
“There were some personnel complications, and that’s all I’ve been instructed to say about the matter,” Sweet said. “The applicant never got to the school board for approval.”
The position has been reopened with applications being accepted until June 7. Sweet is handling spring football drills, which began this week.
