The coaching staff of the Cincinnati Reds is upset by a comment from owner Marge Schott that no member of the staff is qualified to manage the club should Pete Rose be suspended for gambling.

“I saw it as a slap in the face,” said coach Tommy Helms, who has managed the Reds when Rose was absent.

Schott told the Cincinnati Enquirer: “To be frank, I don’t think we have any coaches who could handle a top leadership job.”
