ANKARA, Turkey — Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, laid a wreath at the mausoleum of modern Turkey’s founder Friday during a one-day private visit to Ankara.
“On my first visit to Turkey I salute the memory of the founder of a great nation,” he wrote in a book at Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s austere hilltop mausoleum.
The prince will meet President Kenan Evren and Prime Minister Turgut Ozal later Friday and visit Ankara’s 3,000-year-old citadel dating from the Hittites.
