An armed man robbed a woman of $3,000 in a Rancho Palos Verdes bank parking lot Friday morning and shot at a man working nearby who tried to prevent the gunman and an accomplice from driving away, according to Deputy Bill Logan of the Lomita Sheriff’s Station. The worker was not hit and the two men escaped southbound on Western Avenue, he said.
Logan said the victim, 40-year-old Patty Park of San Pedro, was carrying a bank deposit bag containing $3,000 toward Security Pacific National Bank at 29227 S. Western Ave. at 11:10 a.m. when the man grabbed the bag and ran toward a white Chevette waiting in the parking lot. The workman pushed a wheelbarrow in front of the car in an attempt to stop it, but the gunman, seated in the passenger side, fired once at the worker as the pair fled, Logan said.
Logan said deputies obtained the license number of the car. He described the two men as black males between the ages of 25 and 30. He said the armed man wore blue jeans, a white shirt and sunglasses.
